The Mark Twain Blues

Gather 'round children I'm here to tell
The Story of Mark Twain I knew him well
A sailor Who's ventures no doubts so bold
conquerin' gales & torrents in the days of old
So there goes Mark Twain Ridin' up the river north
He's cruisin' the Mississippi
He's Sailin back & forth
& I say nothings gonna stop him no gales nor force
Nothing's gonna stop him cept the Petersburg shore
As he arrives the whole town comes to life
They say "hey Mr. Twain, you got here just in time"
And he says "though it really is good to see you folks around,
early in the mornin' I'ma leave this town
for I must head west I really aughta
If I ever plan to get my words
Past Nevada
What Mr. Twain did share was really all there
with the works of a poet and the voice of a jest
they can't look past his antics & they start to detest
never to realize his interest.
Louis starts to hurry
Off the shores of Missouri
"I may have a wife but it's an escape for the lonely,
Then commons close their minds
take it as just another story
The Ideas that I has they fear to deem as worthy
for in the truth they'd be lost
& @ what cost
I guess just some people can't
afford to be taught"
Some say abolitionism
wasn't work for a journalist
he says
"My, my, you're right,
I'm just an altruist.
And even the church has no soul
so i come around talkin bout that
greater goal."
Mark Twain had a mustash above his foul mouth
He had some good ideas so he wrote them all out
His words are landmarks in any soul sailers route
but just like anything
most people gonna doubt,
So there Goes Mark Twain ridin' up the river north
he's cruisin the Mississippi
he's goin back & forth
Nothing's gonna stop him no gale nor force
nothings Gonna stop him 'cept St. Petersburg Shore.

San Francisco, she's that city that I love
San Francisco, reminds me of that great above
San Francisco, I wrote her a song
& If you'd ever been there
You're bound to sing along
Cause it's a rush isn't it
You said as everything was spinnin'
and you kept on thinkin'
It's a rush isn't it
As your heart had stopped
you were barely breathing
Out here on the boulevard
Where they walk as they talk
about singing this way forever
That was the night I opened my eyes
A little confused I was no longer blind
And only then did I realize
that only then I'd be so inclined
to speak the thoughts locked in my mind
burned to ashes where I did rise
Out here on the boulevard
Where they walk as they talk
about singing this way forever
Cause it's a rush isn't it
You said as everything was spinnin'
and you kept on thinkin'
It's a rush isn't it
As your heart had stopped
you were barely breathing
Out here on the boulevard
Where they walk as they talk
about singing this way forever
Some people spend too much money
on life advice
they send it my way i return it
back there way twice
reminding me of when i was labeled dead
with hand's stifling my neck I was
out of breath
it was hottter than hell but i didn't mind
burned to ashes where I would rise
Out here on the boulevard
Where they walk as they talk
about singing this way forever
Cause it's a rush isn't it
You said as everything was spinnin'
and you kept on thinkin'
It's a rush isn't it
As your heart had stopped
you were barely breathing
Out here on the boulevard
Where they walk as they talk
about singing this way forever
I could not oppose as she
kissed my neck
I was rendered helpless as her
lips were pressed
fires burn learn not
to subside
I guess that's just what happens
when there's plenty of time
crystal clear came her dilated eyes
burned to ashes where would rise
Out here on the boulevard
Where they walk as they talk
about singing this way forever
All the poets are stuck doing laundry
out past the horizon where the ends are sundry
Always waitin for some excitement
procures useless dissappointmen
cause I was never thrown in such a world with
so many flowers and pretty girls
and they run and sing this way
Then I've been on this busride before
I'll ride it now so many times more
never know where I'm goin' next
but a voice in my head says get with it
cause maybe it'll take me to the kind of world
with so many flowers and pretty girls
and they laugh and sing this way
what do they say?
tell me what they say
"that it's a rush isn't it
You said as everything was spinnin'
and you kept on thinkin'
It's a rush isn't it
As your heart had stopped
you were barely breathing
Out here on the boulevard
Where they walk as they talk
about singing this way forever"

Hey, my LeAnn
Pass me that cigarette
Hey, my Leann
remember those times we would forget
Cause I woulda liked it if we'd only thought things through
I woulda kept ya
if all you said was true
but
Hey, My LeAnn
with that pretty black hair
and the scents that surround you
and close that you'd wear
when I'm lost in your wonder
this I admit I still question the notion of whether you exist
So I sing:
Hey, My LeAnn
1000th apologies
Hey, My LeAnn
It's when nothing else means everything
yeah, i woulda liked it if we'd only thought things true
I woulda kept ya if all you said was true
but, hey, My Leann
with those cellophane eyes
beguiled discreetly in that elusive disguise
when i'd stay up and sing past the end of the night
an illusion you were
yet you still cross my mind
So I sing:
Hey, My LeAnn
pass me that cigarette
Hey, My LeAnn
No guarantees but no regrets
cause
Secret lovers meet again with your ammends
I will surrender and I'll sure as hell repent
When secret lovers meet again with your consent
I will surrender and I'll sure as hell repent
I smoke 10 cigarettes a day because of you
When I'm lying on my deathbed
we'll all know to blame you.

I was feelin' so morose
Just Like Edgar Allen Poe
and to this i think she knows
and to this I fear she knows
cause I was feelin' so forlorn
Just Like Edgar Allen Poe
and to this i think she knows
and to this I fear she knows
She was triumphant than the devil's death
cause when I walked away I had looked upset
so I fell into my bed
and thought about the things
maybe
I shoulda said
And maybe theres something I coulda done
Different
And maybe next time I should
plan ahead
I guess that's just the way these things just are
When light closes in &
It's a-gettin' dark
so I was feelin' so morose
Just Like Edgar Allen Poe
and to this i think she knows
and to this I fear she knows
& I was feelin' so forlorn
Just Like Edgar Allen Poe
and to this i think she knows
and to this I fear she knows
I learned what it is to be forlorn
it's when you're sitting around in a broken home
and nothing moves @ all
cept the rats crawling in the walls
you start thinkin'bout the bittter end
when's this all begin to mend?
then you start thinkin about how she'd
condescend
when you one day talked about meetin'
her again
that sneer she left as gave her your mind
when the clock is a-tickin' but you won't tell no time
when you're feelin' so morose
just like Edgar Allen Poe
and to this I think she knows
and to this I fear she knows
And I know I felt his pain
as he'd sing of Tamerlane
for these things are all the same
and it's runnin' me insane
SO there I was keepin' myself locked up
when one day I reckoned I'd had enough
so thinkin' I was pretty brave
I'd begun diggin my own grave
next thing you'd figure
I'd seen the light of day
Then i thought:
Maybe things were ment to
be this way
Life ain't easy and it's a
quite a bit strange
while no one hears you out while you're alive
'til you're layin' in a gutter
fixin to die
and you'll pray and you'll pray
for
just one more try
and you'll run away
and maybe you'll find
that these things just get better with time
It make take a while but that's just fine
these just get better with time
my friend!
cause that's just the way these things just are
&that's just the way these things just are
'til the sun comes up and it just ain't that dark.

Theres an African nation on fire
well theres an African nation on fire
Fight cancer
use what you got
but it keeps on burnin'
and it ain't gonna stop
there's people in the streets
& they're burnin' by the lots
their corpses decay
&their bodies rot
when Theres an African Nation on fire
and it keeps on burnin'
Theres an African Nation on fire
and it keeps on burnin'
right now
Ignited right within sudan
Caught in the great
devid for land
no one I knew would lend a hand
so now all that's left is sand
when Theres an African Nation on fire
and it keeps on burnin'
Theres an African Nation on fire
and it keeps on burnin'
right now
I called the department
they didn't care
they said it's fine
if it stays there
they shoulda gone
either way
but when they shoulda gone
they just stayed
so Theres an African Nation on fire
and it keeps on burnin'
Theres an African Nation on fire
and it keeps on burnin'
right now
There's a nation on fire
don't you know
yet it's still not enough to make you go
televisions refuse to show
for they do not want you to go
but
but Oh, don't you know
there's a nation on fire & it's about to blow
but Oh, don't you know
yet it's still not enough to make you go
when Theres an African Nation on fire
and it keeps on burnin'
Theres an African Nation on fire
and it keeps on burnin'
There's an African nation on fire
and it keeps on burnin'
theres an African Nation on fire
and no one's doing
SHIT

I don't care much for lies
I never'ever wanted to deciet anyone
I don't care much for pride
The country I come from is a fortunate one
but there's these things we cannot hide
such as our guns & our knives
tell me honey
what's another
million lives?
when innocence turns wretched in the
laws we abide?
and what'll it take to show
that if the church even has a soul
kill a ragged man today and you'll kill much more
Killin' in the name of God
When you're killin' in the name of God
what's worng
when you're killin' in the name of God
When you're killin' in the name if God
Does it really matter
who's right or wrong?
have you ever stopped to think
who's gonna drop the next bomb?
when you're killin' in the name of God
when you're killin' in the name if God
I don't care much for politics or religion
why do they define our semantics & decisions
when we're killin' in the name of God
when we're killin' in the name of God
Jesus only was a man
and never did he have this plan
for all i know and all it's worth
all is only getting worse
prophesize to take away
ostracize then fade away
preach a world of love but hate
leave free will it's up to fate
& no one ever wonders why
the bible always leads to lies
Innocence does not exist
it never has it's never been
Everything that it is will fade
no lamb of God no one to save...
So i think God must be dead
someone better get on up their and a-bury him
it's been stuck in my head
that everything worth fighting for
is meaningless.

Charlene

|

I once had a God
he made up a queen
he called out her name
he called out charlene
and as Charlene he said
thus awoke the dead
And as Charlene he said
Awoke from my slumber once again
I was a bit young then
younger than I ever been
she walked away
I was unsure that I'd see her again
her presence was radiant
her essence well aged
she was easiy accoustmed
past the end of days
If you ever met her
you'd know what i meant
if i describe a punk rock godess
in a fair wheather dress
When the vibrant wonders
of a subtle caress
cross the mind
intoxicate the head
Shakespear does love her
yet the angels do frown
in a vain contempt
for she's stolen their crown
so they rallied up their thunder
aimed for her head
Missed by a mile
struck me instead
Charlene, she's a queen
so I'm told and so it seems
It occurse to me
she's the queen of everyone i met
and everything
charlene you're a queen
so i'm told and so it seems
Charlene you're a queen
queen of everyone I met
and everything
Caught up in something you cannot have
thirst is a knife stabbing you in the back
you speak but no one seems to understand
no oasis present in this desert land
time is a virgin then she suddenly breaks
takes the pass, ceases to progress
No longer breathing,
no longer seeing
no right words
no longer dreaming
I was a child she was a maid
lost in a thought i was amazed
spoke to soon she said "well played"
still to this day
how i wish she'd stayed
I walked away
yet how i wish she'd stayed
Some say love songs where never meant to be finished
by the time i started this one it was already written
and everything's desolate nothing has changed
I still got my ego and a sense of pain
Still remember when she was last in my grasp
but everything is transient and nothing does last
If you ever get caught up in what coulda been
remember theres a many good reasons why it aint happenin'.
